You can be a part of our zero hunger campaign today

After almost 5 decades of war and armed conflict, South Sudan achieved its independence in July 2011. And with the coming of peace in February 2020, expectations became high that there will be peace, food security, improved health care and prosperity to its people. The world's newest nation, South Sudan is naturally endowed with agricultural potential given its favorable soil, water and climatic conditions. It is estimated that about 70% of total land area is suitable for producing a wide range of agricultural products including annual crops such as grains, vegetables, tree crops such as coffee, tea and fruits, livestock, fishery and various forest products. To realize such agricultural potential and achieve economic development and broad-based improvements in the nation's living standards, a realistic understanding of the country's initial conditions is required such that appropriate policy measures and agricultural growth can be designed in the near future.

Covid 19 awareness campaign

With the recent global outbreak of Covid 19, South sudan wasn’t a country to be spared either. ARSS is a proud participant in the fight against the deadly virus that has claimed many lives globally and in South sudan as well.

Improving nutrition in vulnerable households

To better nutrition, ARSS has distributed assorted seed kits to vulnerable households in Juba, South Sudan both horizontal and vertical gardening. The extra is sold in the markets to purchase other basic food items.

Emergency response to flood victims

Urban farming initiative

Urban farming helps the communities survive siege conditions. Ten grams of seeds for example can produce thousands of tomato plants.

Covid-19 support

We supported 15 households with seeds during the Covid-19 lockdown and see the results.

Providing livelihood to vulnerable communities

Agriculture in South sudan largely remains at subsistence level with average field size of two feddans/acres per household, crop yields being very low: hardly one ton per feddan/acre due to use of poor quality seeds, tools and agronomic practices. the same applies to the livestock and fisheries sectors. The climate is favorable for growing both food and cash crops as weather conditions make 70% of land suitable for agriculture.
